About Us…
The Cobb Gathering Emergent Cohort is a “connecting” vehicle for those on a journey…a local “on-ramp” to the larger Emergent Conversation.
The handful of us that launched this thing each seemed to have read that dangerous book series by Brian McLaren, “A New Kind of Christian”. We each were relieved to know we weren’t crazy: someone had put into words the uneasy feeling we had…the “disconnect” with the theology and the faith and worship practices we had inherited. Each of had this “now what” gnawing at us and began an awkward journey to connect with others to get some answers. Some of us connected with Troy Bronsink, one of the Emergent voices in Atlanta. Some of us discovered an experimental Emergent church called The Living Room, lead by Tom Livengood. Some of us started house churches. Some of us found the Atlanta Emergent Cohort and in fact that is where we all bumped heads!
When we all learned that we were all from “suburbia”, in fact Cobb County, something clicked! We ALL knew other friends that were “emergent-esque”, but could not find the time or energy to go downtown Atlanta to converse. Sooo…we thought, “what if we started a conversation in Cobb County?”
If you are new to the Emergent conversation, you can learn more at the Emergent Village web site. Specifically, if you want kind of a feel for the “framework” of the conversation, check out the ABOUT page and the VALUES AND PRACTICES page. Be sure and check out some of the other links on our main page as well!
We look forward to meeting you and to not only the conversation, but joining you in the practice! Email me at jeff.c.straka@gmail.com
